no need for x, you can just use the dumb terminal without any graphics front end.

Also does X have to be running in order for rPlay to work?

1) yes, the Internet connection is a requirement as we put in the email. We will determine what to do in future, for now, we will stick with it. Most of the time, internet shouldn't be an issue.

2) seems quite some people have issues on Audio, does the head phone have any audio? Do you get any audio from other apps? you can use this command to play a music or movie:

rplay /path/your-file.mp4

does that generate any sound? I will debug with you to get this fixed. If you google, you will find to add "hdmi_drive=2" to config.txt file, may solve the issue.

3) "rplay --version" should output the version. We will do better job for auto updating in future releases.

Further testing:

1) It appears that the rPI needs Internet access for rPlay to work. Is this just for the beta? I would like to use rPlay in a dedicated situation without Internet.

2) I am not getting sound out HDMI port.

3) Version of rPlay questions, How does one know which version they are running?, How does one know which versions are available?, How to get the latest version?

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created

The following information may help to resolve the situation:
