Natrix,

We are implementing your suggestions about immutable flag. We are doing this:

(1) immutable - the old way
(2) immutable="(hd0,1)/myfile.vhd", so you can specify a file
(3) immutable="(ram)offset:1G,size:2G", so you can use a ram region to store the diff file.

let me know what else you would like to add.

I could not imagine more for the moments...
..But another thing, who would be useful for user about immutable disk, would be to let them choose when kept the change made in it. In that way users who unfortunately change to many things or important data, can kept them safe. Turning the immutable disk into a snapshot at boot.
In the vboot grub2 input would have - A - for:
-Add immutable disk to snapshot-
or maybe another way to make it before reboot..

is your vboot v.2 beta include these immutable feature from now ?
and ram vhd boot too ?

thank you,

ram stuff is not ready yet, may have something soon for below 4G ram, will take more time for above 4G. our mBoot product is file based, so one can configure passthru files. the vboot builtin RAM support is all disk/sector based, and you won't selectively let some files to save to disks.

If you want a permanent snapshot, you can use take a snapshot, so this is not needed for immutable flag.

if I boot in immutable mode on, and I want to reboot and kept the vhd_child_immutable.vhd,
can I add his entry as a snapshot without problem?
Because I dont want create snapshot everytime I boot.. BTW, I'm not sure if a snapshot taken with the same file name overwrite the old snapshot??

when you boot, select an entry, and press 's' to take a snapshot. then it will use the same file everytime. it won't recreate, the same file keeps untill you delete the snapshot.
