I have updated the setup files

www.vmlite.com/index.php/download/applia...setup-files/download

inside the .7z file, there is a modified initrd that should work now.

You can try to modify to use this new initrd, e.g.

menuentry "VHD Ubuntu 10.04, Linux 2.6.32-21-generic" {
insmod vhd
vhd vhd0 (hd1,1)/appliances/ubuntu-1004/ubuntu-1004-desktop-i386.vhd --partitions
linux (vhd0,1)/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.32-21-generic root=/dev/sdb1 vloop=/appliances/ubuntu-1004/ubuntu-1004-desktop-i386.vhd quiet splash
initrd (hd1,1)/appliances/ubuntu-1004/initrd.img-2.6.32-21-generic
}

Once you boot to ubuntu, you can replace the initrd inside ubuntu /boot dir. Then use the original grub entry for initrd,

initrd (vhd0,1)/boot/initrd.img-2.6.32-21-generic

I will also update the .vhd file once you confirm this initrd works on your pc.

i really love the idea of having ubuntu booting from usb, normal (from hdd) and from vmware & co. maybe it sounds to optimistic but this is the future.

the greatest thing would be to have some nice tutorials/wikis to make it work for ANY distro out there. and of course windows, mac, anything... someday.

i already deleted my 15gb ubuntu partition. it's much better to have access to it in a couple of seconds, within windows and leave the consuming stuff for the next boot-up.

p.s. the revolution will be virtualized!

Thanks. Thye current linux VHDs should work well as a virtual machine too. You need to convert the .vhd file to .vmdk to run via vmware.

By the way, have you tested the new initrd? does it fix the problem you reported earlier? (to Srazi)

check grub.cfg file, if you see two quotes together, e.g., ""Ubuntu ..."", need to remove one pair of quotes. There was an error in our initial setup.exe

Hi,
I'm sorry for my late response.
It works fine.
but, there is a little problem,
I don't see graphical startup, last thing that I see is like VDOpen() and after seconds I see gdm login screen.

Also I have a problem with time setting!(this problem was present with ubuntu-9.10 VHD!) I don't know it's because of using VHD on two computers (virtual and physical) or another things!?

that's weird. Can you login? as "user/welcome"

Time settings seems to be troublesome. I got the problem too. After booting ubuntu, Windows time gets changed.
